Agreed, Magnus is awesome - one of my absolute favourite characters. The way his and Alec's relationship has been handled in the later books is one of my biggest qualms with the series - I just don't believe that you could ever desire to shorten the lifespan of someone you genuinely loved. It made me so frustrated reading it - I really wanted to shake Alec, and Cassandra Clare by the shoulders, alternatingly, and yell "NO! Don't be an IDIOT!"
But I guess that it's also sort of a compliment to Ms. Clare that she can engender in me such strong emotions regarding her characters. And neither of them has been killed off, which [whilst seemingly obvious] is actually a massive plus, because so many books and movies/ tv series [mainly the latter, it has to be said] have gay or bisexual supporting characters die, which.... well, sucks, and the Shadowhunters live in a pretty harsh world, so I was a bit worried. Thankfully they're still going, even if not currently together.
I would love to read more about Magnus - I get the feeling he's had a very long and colourful life. And yes, I have read the prequel series, in which he is just as awesome. Maybe some day he'll get to be the star of his own series - an origins tale perhaps? Or just one set in some distant time - imagine what TMI/ TID world would have been like 2,000 years ago! Now that would be something to see. Well, ok, technically read and imagine.
Yes! You got the "gaysian" look I pictured for Magnus down just right. And Alec looks so cute when he's flabbergasted! I know Magnus is over 800 years old, but Adam Lambert would be a great person to play him. Then again, like with Paris Hilton playing Amber Sweet, he wouldn't need to try too hard to do that. Then again, David Bowie is still revered for his role as Jareth, so maybe it could be successful.
